Session 2 of The Dialogue focused on what it means to become a disciple of Jesus. Dr. Kenneth Hammonds led us through Luke 6:40 and helped us consider the teacher-disciple relationship, the call to become like Jesus, and the seriousness of following Christ with our whole lives.

Follow-Up Practice

Take a few minutes to reflect on what stood out to you from Session 2.

This week, return to Luke 6:40 at least three times. Read it slowly and pay attention to three phrases:

• disciple
• perfectly trained
• will be like his teacher

Then ask:

What does it mean for me, in this season of my life, to learn from Jesus, follow Jesus, and become more like Jesus?

You may also use Dr. Hammonds’s 5-Day Discipleship Boot Camp as a guided follow-up practice. Each day invites you to reflect on one aspect of discipleship from Luke’s Gospel:

Choose one day at a time. Read the Scripture, reflect honestly, and identify one concrete step of obedience.

The goal is not to do everything at once. The goal is to take one faithful step toward becoming more like Jesus.

What Discipleship Requires

• Taking the call of Jesus seriously
• Being “all in” and willing to be changed
• Totally surrendering to Christ
• Letting Jesus be first in all things
• Recognizing places where other concerns are receiving too much attention

Where Loyalty Can Be Tested

• Family loyalty
• Loyalty to work or career
• Loyalty to self-indulgence
• Loyalty to habits, training, or patterns learned earlier in life
• Loyalty to desires that pull the heart away from Christ

What Encouraged Participants

• Christ is always with us.
• Nothing can separate us from God’s love.
• God supplies our needs.
• We are secure in God’s hands.
• The Holy Spirit is our Helper.

• Mirror Jesus as a disciple
